Today is my little brother's birthday. I'd love to celebrate, but he's dead. It's a little bit complicated.
To try and get my mind off of things, I tried to do some perusing of social media, which is actually my least favorite hobby. Unfortunately, as usual, this was a bad idea and I stumbled upon a post by this facebook group called "Inclusive Feminism." I liked the idea of feminism being inclusive instead of exclusive, so I had joined a few months ago. It was a naive move.
I've been waiting to see good content from them for ages, but all I kept seeing was aggressive, obnoxious women who wield their terminology like weapons to hide the fact that they have nothing unique or valuable to contribute to the women's rights movement. All they can do is parrot other people and regurgitate a bunch of terms that they feel a particular affinity with. If they don't like what you're saying, they will just tell you you're privileged and expect you to fuck off as if that explains everything.
"Hey, why are you so aggressive...?"
"BECAUSE YOUR PRIVILEGE!"
"No, but, why can't you just explain things instead of using terms you learned in college when people who didn't study feminism won't know what you're talking about?"
"LOOK GUYS, IT'S JUST ANOTHER PERSON WHO IS ALL LIKE, WAH, I DON'T LIKE YOUR INTERSECTIONALITY!"
"What? What does intersectionality have to do with your aggression? All I see you do is insult people..."
"WHAT'S WRONG WITH BEING AGAINST RACIST AND ABLEIST SLURS?"
"You're calling people dickheads! Why do you need any slurs at all?!"
"INTERSECTIONALPRIVILEGEABELISTRACISMOPPRESSION!"
"Oh my god, do you have any thoughts of your own or just a giant, aggressive ego?"
"GOOGLEMYWORDS!"
"I KNOW YOUR WORDS! I JUST WANTED TO MAKE A POINT BEFORE I QUIT YOUR STUPID GROUP."
"OPPRESSION MEANS YOU'RE OPPRESSED!"
"Well duh."
"RAGERAGERAGE!"
"I get it. What you mean by inclusive is people who already think exactly like you do and like to waste time being angry instead of doing things that will actually help your cause. Very clever."
"THAT'S IT, YOU'RE FIRED FROM THE GROUP."
"Didn't I already tell you that I'm leaving?"
And so it goes.
I really wonder what it's going to take before people stop wasting so much time excluding other people just to up their own ego and get that beloved rush from a good argument.
These freaks of nature who were raised on social media think they're really doing something special by looking for things to complain, rant, and scream about. Oh yeah, good job reminding me of how fucking oppressed and sad my life has been. Do you feel better now?
My oppression? Who doesn't experience oppression? I'm a lesbian. I've been poor my whole life. We're all oppressed and it's the messed up society that makes sure we are. We shouldn't be attacking other people who sincerely want to help change this, we should be lifting each other up, not pushing them away. If you really cared so much you would be doing more to change yourself, not other people. Then maybe people would listen to you.
Good luck with that.
